Study preferences
Medkit works well without touching anything. But if you want, you can adjust how the review algorithm behaves to suit the way you study.
Where to adjust them
All of this lives in Settings › Study preferences. The changes apply to all your decks.
Standard or custom
There are two modes. In Standard, Medkit uses a carefully tested configuration and you don't have to decide anything. In Custom, the fine-grained settings below are enabled for you to move as you like.
Target retention
It's the percentage of cards you want to recall at the moment you review them. By default it aims for around 90%. Raising it means you review more often (you forget less but study more). Lowering it does the opposite.
The detail on how it works is in Spaced repetition.
Stuck cards
You can set how many misses it takes for a card to count as stuck and what to do when that happens:
More on these cards in Stuck, hidden, and ignored cards.
Advanced settings
In custom mode you get finer options:
- Maximum interval between reviews: a ceiling in days so a card isn't scheduled too far out.
- Learning steps: the first short intervals of a new card, before it enters the long cycle of days. By default you see it after a minute and then after ten.
- Relearning steps: the same, but for a card you already knew and missed again. It repeats it in short intervals until you recover it.
- Minimum interval after failing: keeps a card you missed and recovered from coming back with too short an interval.
- Interval fuzz: spreads cards apart a little so they don't all pile up on the same day.
